Carol Danvers will be a much more powerful superhero when she returns in Captain Marvel 2, says star Brie Larson.

When it comes to Marvel franchise sequels, Brie Larson is a master of delivering statements that pique the interest of fans. Case in point: when she casually mentioned during an interview last month that Captain Marvel's power levels will be "stronger than ever" when she returns in Captain Marvel 2, which starts filming next year.

Carol Danvers will be more powerful in The Marvels, Brie Larson teases. After her stint helping the Avengers fight Thanos (Josh Brolin) in Avengers: Endgame, Captain Marvel is currently busy with her galactic adventures. Luckily, soon enough, fans will learn what she's been up to, thanks to The Marvels.

Directed by Nia DaCosta, the Captain Marvel sequel will not only continue Carol's MCU narrative, but it will also tackle the respective stories of Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) and Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani). Together, the trio makes up the film's titular narrative. Plot details about the blockbuster are still scant at the moment, but production has wrapped, giving Marvel Studios enough time to polish it during post-production. Before the official marketing period for the flick even begins, Larson is offering an update regarding what to expect from her character.

Speaking with Insider, the Academy Award-winning actress talks about her journey playing Captain Marvel thus far. Apparently, she wasn't physically fit to portray the role when she was first cast, but after that, she made a commitment to prepare for the role. As she geared up for The Marvels, she's more attuned with her body, and that reflects in the film as Carol has also become stronger. Read her full comments below:

"In the first film she's developing that strength, and so I was developing my own personal strength with this one. She's already got more mastery over her powers. She can fly now. And so having my body more limber, more ready for these types of movements like wirework, which I didn't have to do as much on the first one, was the main goal.

If Carol is going to be even more powerful in The Marvels, it's curious how Marvel Studios is planning on addressing criticisms of her being too strong. This was Joe and Anthony Russo's biggest problem with Captain Marvel in Avengers: Endgame. They needed to find a way to exclude her for the most part of the film as she could've easily functioned as a Deux Machina. Now that she's going to be more powerful, it'll be interesting to see how she will be effectively incorporated in subsequent ensemble films when the Avengers need to re-assemble.

 Brie Larson's recent comments suggest that Carol Danvers is going to be even more powerful than she was before. Her affinity for using Kree technology will probably open up some interesting new avenues of storytelling, so get ready for a Captain Marvel 2 that may well overshadow the first movie. We're definitely looking forward to seeing Carol make her triumphant return.
